It was a Senior Prom family style! We got up and went on a family bike ride this morning and came home and did a couple house cleaning jobs while we all drank our One Stop Nutrition drinks. Then Jared and I were just relaxing out back for a little bit and taking in the quiet and I realized that today was Prom. It seemed sad to let the day go by unnoticed. So we called Emma out back and I told her...Hey girl today is your Prom day...let's get dressed up and do your hair and make up and we can go shopping at Target since it's the only store open and look for some fun things to decorate your dorm room with and then tonight we can dance in the backyard! She seemed a little sad about it being Prom day, but also a little happy about doing something, but really she said she would rather stunt instead and then she said she is not dressing up to go to target but she did want to go to Target and she would dress up afterwards. She went inside to get ready to go to Target and I looked at Jared and said, I will take her to go pick up dinner tonight and you boys can throw up some streamers or something - just whatever we had.
As the day went on the ideas started coming to me. When we were at Target I grabbed a couple different streamers and Jared make the big mistake of taking a nap because then I did what I wanted too. I hung up streamers, set out tables, picked up some Pellegrinos, went to Nothing Bundt Cake to pick up her favorite Red Velvet Bundtinis for dessert, I got out our battery operated little candles, went over to Stefney Crawfords house and cut some roses and made all the boys some boutonnieres, made Emma a corsage, got some roses for the dinner table, had the boys cut out the words "Prom 2020" and texted the Bells for some country songs for our playlist since that is her favorite music and they sent us all her favorite songs.
After she was ready for the dance and I was showered and dressed I took her and we went to Cheesecake Factory and picked up dinner for everyone. Jared told me to drive slow and stall because him and the boys were taking longer to set up and get ready then we thought. Jared wore his suit, tie, tie clip, the boys dressed in their best outfits, all put on their boutonnieres, cologne, did their hair, etc. They did everything PERFECT! Then I got a text to have Emma come through the front door. As soon as she opened the front door the 3 boys were standing there and Eli said, "Hi Beautiful, do you want to go to Prom with us?" MELT.MY.HEART!!
We put on her corsage and the boys all headed to the backyard and Jared had me go back there to take pics while he used his phone to play DJ. As soon as we let her come back there the boys asked if they could have this dance! The 4 of them all danced together to one song - she was SHOCKED it was country and loved it! Then we took pictures together, ate our Cheesecake Factory, all the boys got to have a dance with Emma, including Jared. The boys wanted her to stand on their feet like the girls do in the movies - ha ha! Jared would not allow it because he said his shoes were too nice - ha ha! There was a congo line, dipping, fast dancing, everything you would have gotten at your senior prom except it was all with your family. After we ended the dance we had our afterparty out back and everyone changed into pajamas and we watched a movie outside.
Emma was soooo happy the whole night, the boys treated her so well and had the most amazing attitudes, Jared was the cutest with her and helping me with my crazy ideas. It was PERFECT!! It may not have been the Prom she dreamed of, but it was a Prom she will remember forever and be able to talk about down the road. While we are sad she is missing out on some big events in school, we are doing our best to make the most of the situation for her! Happy Prom 2020!!
