The second day of school is now over. Yesterday when school was out we went swimming at Grandma Joyce's house, had dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Rodgers house and then stopped by Grandma Mason's house for a few minutes to tell everyone about our day. Today on the other hand....when she came home she gave me her backpack, went to the bathroom and flopped on the couch and enjoyed a little Disney channel while I made her an afternoon snack because as she says..."mom, I am hungry and exhausted!"

ALL POOPED OUT

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
This morning Jared and I thought it would be a good idea if I followed the bus to school again and watched Emma get off to make sure she went straight to class instead of going to the playground like yesterday's mishap.
Ryan Elementary School figured things out this morning. When each kid that potentially looked the age of kindergarten got off the bus they would ask them if they were in kindergarten and if they were they told them to go get in the kindergarten line. Once there were a good number of kids in that line they would walk them to their building in a separate entrance from the rest of the students and let them go to their classes and get their safely before all the other kids came barreling through the gates.
Everything went smoothly this morning so we will follow her one more time tomorrow morning and if it goes as well we will be done spying on our child :)

I HEART JUICE BOXES!
Ok so I cried at the meeting for the parents 2 months before school started, I cried when I picked up her registration packet and found out she had to be in all day kindergarten, I cried when I showed her around school after her assessment testing and I cried at meet the teacher but I didn't cry on the first day until....
I get to the cafeteria to help all the students open their food and figure out how things are suppose to work. Luckily for me, Emma decided it was ok to see her mom there and she talked to me and gave me a big smile and a wave. Finally Emma goes to sit down to eat but looked a little disappointed so I asked her what was wrong and she told me she wanted to sit by her friend but she was stuck sitting in between 2 boys because at her school you cant sit where ever you want you have to sit with your class and who ever you are standing next to in line is who they are going to make you sit by. (No getting up and throwing away garbage, no getting up and talking to your friends, basically they are cafeteria sloppy joe Nazis who just want you to sit on your bottoms, eat, face forward, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and wait until your teacher comes back to get you and lets you get up throw your trash away and single file line back to class).
Well, mom to the rescue!!! I promptly picked her up and moved her by her friend and felt good about defying the cafeteria rules!
As I was walking around helping kids open their stuff I got to see a lot of interesting lunches. They had everything from a typical ham and cheese sandwich to roast beef sandwiches with cucumbers, uncooked top ramen, a raw hot dog in a dry bun, 3 juice boxes in 1 lunch, cold pizza and cafeteria food. I am happy to report those mom out there that tell their children they cant have their pudding or Doritos until they eat their sandwiches - well guess what - your kids are listening to you - they wouldn't let me open that stuff until they finished their sandwiches first because their moms told them to. What obedient students!
As for the crying - I literally had to hold back tears when I would see a kindergartner with a note on their napkin written by their mom and dad and I read it to them. "Have a great day at school, we are so proud of you. love mom and dad"....its not from my parents, its not to my child - why is this of all things making me cry?! sheesh now I am a homo.

FANTASTIC OR FREAKY?!
The question of the week...are we fantastic parents or freaky parents?! After putting Emma on the bus we drive to the school, park, get out, load Elias in the stroller and grab the camera and hurry to the school to spy on Emma and make sure she gets off the bus and to her class ok. As soon as we get to school we see Emma getting off the bus and talking to a staff member and then heading over to the playground to play. We stand there and watch her for a few minutes and then start to notice all the kids going to line up and heading off to their classrooms with their teachers but Emma is still playing. We grab Emma and head over to the teachers to find out what is going on and we learn that kindergartners aren't supposed to play they are supposed to head straight from the bus to their classrooms - to quote my mother-in-law "thanks $7 an hour workers for sending my child to the wrong place and that's how kids get kidnapped."
So we now take Emma to her classroom and get her all situated, take a picture tell her goodbye and I say "I will see you at lunch!" Her mouth drops open and she says "what?! you're not suppose to come, the other moms don't, that's embarrassing" so I assure her that I am there strictly on business just to help kids put straws in juice boxes and open bags of chips and I let her know that if she doesn't want me to talk to her I wont :)
On our way back to the blazer Jared lets me know that he thought I was embarrassing bringing my camera but after being at school and seeing more cameras there than at Disneyland he was glad I was a nerdy mom.
I am not done with my fantasicness or freakiness yet! Before school gets out I head over to school to spy on Emma again and make sure she gets on the right bus. Each student wears a color band on their backpack to signify which bus they are to be on but being a first time mom at this I am still a little nervous. Her bus is suppose to drop her off at the bus stop by my house at 3:07pm but she didn't even get on her bus until 3:25pm. Finally she gets on the bus, I call Jared to let him know its on its way and then I run with Elias in my arms to my car (he thinks its hilarious to be bouncing up and down on my giant mom hips), we load up in the car and cut the other cars off so I can follow the bus to its stops and make sure Emma gets off on the right stop.
After following the bus for a minute I get the motherly instinct to double check the bus number and I am following the wrong bus. I frantically call Jared and let him know I am not following the bus so be extra careful watching for Emma. I make a quick u-turn speed up and try to catch up to Emma's bus. Long story short (or maybe not) Emma gets off on the right stop and we are good to go.
As Jared is about to leave the bus stop some kids go up to Jared and tell him that the little boy who is crying got off on the wrong stop. Jared went to pick Emma up in the dune buggy and didn't know how his parents would feel if he gave him a ride in that so Jared had me put him in the car and drive to the next bus stops to find his mom. Apparently his parents didn't teach him about stranger danger because he hopped in my car without me even having to lure him with candy or a puppy but we did get him to his mom who ran over and gave him the worlds biggest hug and he started crying and we left. (can I just say I didn't expect a hero's welcome or anything but a simple thank you would have been nice so in sticking with my theme of the month - to the mother of the lost boy - "you're welcome for helping your son you homo!")

THE DREAM FINALLY BECAME A REALITY!
The BUS!!! Woo Hoo!! Every time we see one on the road all Emma can talk about is how she cant wait to ride the bus. The day finally comes for Emma to do so, and we pull out of our garage and look over towards the bus stop and see it coming all I can say as I throw the blazer into drive is "oh heck no we aren't missing the bus the first day of school!". We haul butt over there and then the bus disappears. As we are waiting at the stop Emma sees her friend Janette (kindergarten) and her older brother, Joshua (2nd grade) and so we talk to them and then Joshua realizes he doesn't have his water bottle so his mom leaves their 20 month old with us so she can run with Joshua home to grab the water and while she is gone the bus arrives.
Emma and Janette grab hands and with the biggest smiles on their face excitedly cross the street and make their way to the bus. When they get to the steps at the bottom of the bus they pause for a moment as if "are we really suppose to go up here?". They decide to go ahead and head up the steps and the bus continues to sit there for a minute or two and finally the bus driver gets on the microphone and says "take a seat anywhere girls, just sit down".
Finally the bus takes off and around the corner comes Joshua. From across the street we can here him crying because he missed the bus so we give his mom the 20 month old and hurry Joshua into our blazer and try to follow the bus so he can get on at the next stop. We missed the next stop but at the 3rd stop there was a good 20-25 people waiting (kids and parents) and they are upset because the bus drove right on past them and didnt stop to pick them up. Long story short, we leave Joshua there with his friends and we head to the school to spy on Emma and make sure she gets to class ok
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

6:45am yesterday Emma is awake and ready to start her first day of school! Miss Emma requested pancakes with maycole (maple) syrup on the bottom and whipped cream on top. After breakfast we moved on to getting dressed - an extremely important part of the first day of school (this outfit will be in the scrapbook forever and permanently engraved in our minds) so it needs to be a good one. She picked out this outfit at H&M and its cute but definitely not our favorite but it took all I had to suck it up and let her wear her outfit of choice (mad props to me). We then brushed our teeth, put on perfume :), went potty, grabbed our pink cheetah print backpack and matching lunch box and out the door went the 4 of us to take her to the bus stop.

MY FIRST SPARKLER!
Emma had been waiting for several months to go do fireworks in California with the Fa'anunus/Willyerds and the time had finally come. When she got her first sparkler she was running around the backyard with the HUGEST smile you have ever seen and was just happy as can be - so happy that when her skirt fell down around her knees and exposed her panties to everyone she didnt even care because she had her sparkler!
