PRIMETIME COMPETITION!

I haven't blogged about dance for a long time. It's the same old thing, practices, performances, costumes, blinging, driving, paying, watching, enjoying, etc. This year Emma is a mini star again. She loves it. I don't like to brag to much, but I am going to anyways. Emma is on a little team made up of only 6 girls. They are very very strong girls. One of the strongest little dance groups in the valley for their age. A lot of studios would like to get them (this is not just me saying this or our studio saying this, this is even other studio owners who have come to work with our girls who say this).

Emma competes in a lyrical number (Make Us One), a production number (Wonderland - its a hip-hop/contemporary version of Alice in Wonderland), a jazz number (Roll It), a musical theater number (City Lights - Emma does a really cool back hand walkover thing down some rather large boxes) and a trio (Footloose). She is in love with all her dances. Other than her trio, none of the dances are just with their core group. They have a few other dancers from other groups in all of her dances (and just in case they read this I won't say anything else).  At the 2nd to last competition we went to they messed up in one of their dances so bad that the owner walked out on it. Rightfully so, it sucked. She was so mad about it, we told her to throw away their trophy in front of the girls (yes, they still won a 1st place, but the dancing sucked, they have danced it much better before). I am happy to report that with all the problems at that competition none of them were really from the mini stars. That settled that, the next day we got a text from the owner saying she wants to do a new dance with just the mini stars and mums the word, she wasn't ready to hear from angry/jealous parents just yet.

The girls worked hard for that dance. They basically learned the whole dance in 6 hours straight one day. Emma was SORE! She was exhausted and couldn't get up for the church the next day and did require an Epson salt bath. They cleaned the dance up over the next 11 days trying to get it ready to compete at the next competition.

The girls were excited to dance it at the next competition. The 6 of them got on stage having only learned this dance in 13 days and ROCKED IT!!! It got one of the highest scores that night and ended up in first place for their age group. We had to dance it again that night and compete it in the finals against other top dances. All the dances started back with zero points and again, they cleaned house and walked away with a cash prize and number one overall for the petite category. We couldn't have been more proud! Those girls worked it, earned it and proved themselves once again at being the best for their age.

The girls after finding out they won first place and get to come back and compete in the finals
and the winner in the petite category is....."RING THEM BELLS, SAS DANCE STUDIO"
Check out Emma on the far left, above she has the biggest smile on her face and below she is jumping in mid-air, yes she is slightly happy about her win! ha ha :)
Here are the girls all lined up, waiting to hear if they won the biggest and best award of the night...they didn't. It is hard to get 8/9 year olds to win against 18 year olds who have been dancing longer than these girls have been alive....but at least they won overall for their age category and a cash prize!
The trophy!
Here is Emma the next day accepting their award for their trio...
