SIMPLE PLEASURES!

I told Eli that if he finished his sandwich he could have some ice cream. He finished. I gave him his ice cream. Look what he did, he shared with Tyson. What a sweet boy!

FIRST WEEK OF 2ND GRADE!

Well, this was the most uneventful first week of school ever (probably a good thing but sure does make for a boring post, sorry).

The night before school started Emma picked out her outfit, a new dress of course, layed it out with new shoes, etc, she got her blessing and requested pancakes for breakfast. That morning I got up and Emma said she changed her mind she would like scrambled eggs and I told her I didn't have enough eggs for that but we could have waffles, whipped cream and strawberries, she LOVED that idea. I grabbed the new box from Costco to make the waffles only to discover it was infested with weevils. After throwing that away we grabbed the phone and called our neighbor who luckily had a box of waffle mix so that I could make Emma's first day with the breakfast of her choice.

It was now time to head to the bus stop but this year since the twins were still sleeping the whole family didn't go to the stop, instead just Emma and I went and I took the traditional photo at the bus stop and getting on the bus. After the bus left I was talking to my friend Stephanie who also has twins, but girls twins, who are a month older than my boys and she was telling me she was going to go home and load them up to take them to school with her to check on her girls - um no! you don't take twins to school on the first day, there is no parking, 5,000 parents walking around and its just too dang hot to be lugging around a stroller with babies in it. So I stole the stroller and took the girls home with me. My boys were in heaven!! Tyler the pimp, kept trying to hold Payton's hand although she would have nothing to do with him and Tyson and Eli kept playing with Chiara's toes that were painted pink. After they left I did a quick trip to the grocery store and brought Eli with me. When I got home Jared told me how happy the twins had been. They just wandered around from room to room together playing with toys in each place. They were probably thinking, finally...peace and quiet from those older 2 kiddos!

I went to school to help out in the cafeteria like usual on the first day. Emma is still excited to see me at school and gives me hugs - yay!! How much longer will that last?! Emma did spill a little cheese on her new dress and wanted me to desperatly pull out some magic wipes and make it go away and I told her I had nothing but I could get it out at home no problem. Then her teacher picked her to clean off the table (this is cool to do at school) so she grabbed that freaking nasty blue janitor rag to wipe down the table and asked me to wipe her dress clean with that - NO!!!! Emma we never touch our clothes with these - they are discusting!!! (I think she learned after that).

I did find her friend Sydney who we carpool to dance with and she was upset because she wasn't wearing tennis shoes for the first day of PE so I told her I would go home and grab some of Emma's and bring them back. I only did because I remember one time Emma was in Kindergarten and she was upset she forgot her tennis shoes so the teacher called me and I was able to head down there and bring her the right shoes and I knew Sydney's parents would do the same and no one wants to be upset the first day of school so I had no choice really, I had to get her the shoes.

I went back to school in the afternoon to help get all the kiddos on the right bus, its very cute to watch older siblings freak out when they cant find their younger ones in line, I love how they are watching out for them - I pretend its because they love them and not because their parents will kill them if they come home without them.

Emma finally got home with no problems. We had after school root beer floats and went swimming at the neighbor's house. All in all it was a great first day and the rest of the week went just as smooth! Way to go Emma, you are so big!! (stop growing!)PS - Emma also said she really really had to have a scarf for the 2nd day of school, so we got her one. This is how she left for school and when she came home it was waded up in a ball in her backpack...hmmmm a scarf too hot when its a 110 degrees outside - that's weird! :)

SUMMER HIGHLIGHTS!

Is school really starting in 3 days?! We didn't go on a family vacation this year but we kept busy doing something?! Some highlights for the kiddos: Emma and Maddy getting to stay a weekend with Grandma Jensen and getting spoiled in ways that only a grandma can do with goodies, games, swimming, etc.Emma also got spoiled by Grandma and Grandpa Rodgers and enjoyed a weekend going to see "Up", getting dinner, Coldstone and going to her first musical to see "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" at Gammage.Eli got to do a Parent/tot tumbling class through the city and Grandpa Rodgers took him to a Dinosaur Museum for a few hours and he came home with the biggest dinosaur ever. The next morning he woke up and gave his dinosaur some water out of the faucet - he was thirsty :)
This last week of summer we tried to jam pack it full of fun since we didn't do much. Jared took it off of work and we started the week off with Amazing Jake's (a big thank you to Grandma Jensen for babysitting the twins!)Eli's first time bowling - only the best entertainment ever. Basically every turn should be his turn, he carries the ball with all his might to the line until it buzzes at him and then he drops/puts it down and then gives it a little push and we all sit and stare at it for about 5 minutes until it reaches the pins, then we get to race back and watch it pop out of the ball dispenser thingy. The kiddos had a great time riding the little rides, playing the games and eating the food. The kids also went to Bounce Jungle, the movies, Emma had a movie night with her friends over here and she went shopping for new school clothes. Funniest thing ever - watching her strategically place the bags up and down her arms so everyone can see how many she has as she walks around the mall (secretly admit it, you did this too when you were younger!)Today we ended the summer with a bang - we went to the lake with the Votaws (thanks Grandma Jensen for watching the twins again). It was Eli's first time. Poor kid doesn't get out much, first thing he says when we get to the lake is, "wow, look at the big rocks!" Joel let the kiddos drive; Emma spends the time driving us back and forth because she keeps correcting her last move (it will be a loooong time before she gets her license) and Elias just drives us in circles! We did a little lake swimmingand a little wakeboardingeven Emma wanted to try and even popped up out of the water for 1 split secondIt was a fun summer and a busy one - 2nd grade here we come in 3 days!!

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?!

Emma can! She has been wanting to try out for her dance studio's dance team for most of last year and we told her she could but she would have to work very hard for it and try really hard.So the time finally came for try-outs. We told her to try her best and have fun. I took her there in the morning and wow! Its nerve racking. All the girls in her group got split up into smaller groups of 3-4 and they had to go into the studio and one by one perform their splits, the "cool" walk, etc and then do this little dance routine that they just learned that week. While doing all of this 3 judges sit there and take notes the entire time and smile. You can't see into the room because they close the blinds - so to carry on with my crazy mom theme I found the perfect crack in the blinds where I could stand and watch Emma. I had the worst sweatiest armpits ever, I was so nervous for her (how do parents handle it when it is something serious, I am a freak show). She did so good I was so proud of her. That night they were going to post the results online and you could check to see if you made it or not. Here is the sneaky part - everyone makes the dance team - but we didn't tell that to Emma, we wanted to boost her self esteem and have her try hard and not be silly. When we checked the results; SURPRISE! Emma made it :) We were proud of her. But wait, there was an Astrix by her name...we scroll down and shock to us all, she made the competition team, we weren't even trying for the competition team. The competition team is by try-out only because they really want the best because they do go to competitions for trophies and to quote them, "we are only as good as our worst dancer" so they are pretty serious about it all. After attending the team meeting and after much deliberation, we have decided to let Emma do it. She now dances 4 days a week for 7 hours and takes everything from hip-hop, to tap, ballet and team classes. She loves every second of it, except ballet. As Emma says, "my ballet teacher is the master of pain!" We are so proud of our little dancer!

4th OF JULY WEEKEND!

On Friday we decided to get a sitter for the twins and then take Emma and Eli to the drive-in movies (seriously, when was the last time you were there?!) We took them to see Ice Age, Dawn of the Dinosaurs (you have to make sure and say "Dawn of the Dinosaurs" or else Eli will get really angry and correct you). Not my first pick for a movie but since Eli has an obsession with dinosaurs, why not.We actually had a really good time. I packed a bunch of crap to eat, we swung by Randi's and stole a few drinks (thanks pretty girl!) and folded down the back seat and layed on blankets, pulled out some camping chairs and sat back and enjoyed the show. We have to say, the screen was better than we thought and the sound was better so ya, we will go back in the fall and try it again.

Then Saturday came around and Jared took it off and we went to Grandma Joyce's house for a 4th of July party. It was filled with tons of food, swimming, a pinata (filled with toys, candy and dinosaurs - only the best pinata ever!) and she even did her famous "money dive." It brought back good times. Diving into a pool with 50 other cousins and trying to hurry and pick up as much money off the bottom of the pool floor as possible while avoiding being kicked in the head countless times, keeping track of your stash and not wasting your time picking up the pennies only picking up silver coins. Well, this crowd was the new generation of money divers and they were, to say the least, weak sauce. They all used goggles (pansies) and some of them used their mommies to help them (again, pansies) But, they all still had a great time and loved every second of it. There was no trip to pic-n-save afterwards to spend the loot, it was off to the next get together.
At night we headed over to the Slys (my sister-in-law's in laws) to watch fireworks and have dinner. It was the perfect spot to watch them, they live right behind Schnepf farms so it was great! The kiddos all loved them.
