This boy couldn't decide between cross country or basketball for Jr High. So he decided to try out for both. If he didn't make basketball he was just going to do cross country. So bless his little heart, he would get up early in the morning and go run, then eat his free breakfast sandwich and juice, go to school and then stay after for basketball practice. He made first cuts at basketball and was so excited. He did not end up making second cuts. For someone who doesn't really pay and is competing against all the club kids, we were super proud of him. He cried a tiny bit and then ran out the door that night to his first basketball practice with a winter team he decided to join. When we returned back to school after Christmas break, cross country was looking like it was canceled thanks to AIA. But then over the weekend they reinstated it and he was back at this week. We went to his first meet and he did awesome. He came in 3rd for his school, but we have no idea what place for the meet. He was for sure in the front half, but he couldn't even come close to competing against the 8th graders who were so much bigger and hit puberty already - ha ha. He loved it and can't wait to race next week....he even had a good attitude about the mask wearing - although on the third lap he was having a hard time breathing so I yelled to him to take the mask off and put it on at the finish line. So proud of this kid for giving it his all and doing his best! Love you buddy!
Ps - he was so excited to get his jersey, he sent me and Jared pics the morning he got it.
Pps - we won't mention how the first time he ran past us Jared kept telling me it wasn't him - it was!
Skip to a month later and he got to participate in the EVC (East Valley Conference) cross country meet. They said no parents allowed...again that didn't stop me. The boys had a half day that day so I grabbed Tyler and Eli and we went out to the park where it was and parked our car, got out and cheered him on throughout the course! He did AWESOME!!
