NIKKI'S WEDDING!

In the summer of 1995 I went off to BYU to attend EFY with my good friends Natalie and Sara. They not only got to room together but they got to be in the same group together and I had to be in a different room, different group and different building - I was so angry at EFY for not following my mom's letter to a tee! But, looking back on it now, I know that Heavenly Father had a bigger plan in store for me. I needed to go to EFY that summer with my friends and become separated from them so I could get the opportunity to meet Nikki Bullock.I attribute the fact that I am married to the man I am married today to Nikki. She became such a great friend to me that when we both came back from EFY we got together a couple of times and spent the night together and she invited me out with her a couple of times and then we hit our senior year in high school and didn't talk much but when we both started our first semester at MCC we ran into each other at the institute building and being the amazing person she is she grabbed my hand and dragged me over to meet her friends. That's when I met Amy!Amy and Nikki were the social butterflies of MCC. If there was a party, they knew about it, if there was a trip, they knew about it, anything that was fun and worth while, they knew about it. They would always take me and introduce me to everyone. From them I met a lot of people and long story short, I met Jared.Last night we were blessed with the opportunity to go to Nikki's wedding and experience that with her. Everything was amazing there and the bride and groom were stunning. We even got to carpool with Bryant who translated for David's dad who is Columbian.Nikki will forever and always hold a special place in my heart that makes me get teary eyed when I think of her. If anyone deserves to be happy it's Nikki and last night she sure was happy!

CHRISTMAS TIME!

We had a great Christmas with all of our usual Christmas traditions. We went to Grandma and Grandpa Rodgers house Christmas Eve for the traditional fondue. This year was the best fondue yet but it wasn't enjoyed to the fullest because right as we were about to sit down we got the call that we were allowed to talk to Ashley on her mission via Skype, so we did that and ate at our own leisure throughout the phone call. We also had a marshmallow war and Grandma Rodgers even got in a few good shots herself!
Then Christmas morning Jared and I woke up to Emma sorting the presents under the tree at 7am and then at 7:30am Eli came into our room with the 3 of us in there and we all shouted "Merry Christmas!" to him and in typical Eli fashion he freaked out on us and threw a fit. He didn't want anything to do with the presents under the tree but he did find his train set from Grandpa Rodgers and wanted to build that. Jared and Eli put that together and watched it go round and round while we let Emma open up her boring presents from Santa (her clothes). Finally Eli was in a good mood and decided he did want to open his gifts after all. We all went in and opened presents and Emma discovered her Nintendo DSI case and other accessories but didn't find the actual DSI so Jared convinced her Santa must have forgotten it (he had this ingenious idea of hiding it until the very end so she would get sad and then it would be extra exciting to find it). Eli and Emma opened all their gifts and loved them and rode around the house on their razors and were quite content and happy. As I started to make breakfast Emma started thinking about her gifts and started crying, then cried even harder..."why would Santa give me a blu-ray movie when I cant watch it because we don't have a blu-ray player and why would he give me all the DSI stuff without the DSI"...Jared's plan backfired hard on him - she was way more sad than he wanted so he quickly brought her over to the tree and miraculously found the DSI. Finally at 930am the twins got up and loved eating breakfast with us and were lovin' all the gifts and didn't even care that Eli opened most of the gifts for them.
Later that night all the Jensens came over to our house for Christmas dinner and gifts and we had a great time with them and watching all the kiddos play.
The next day, Boxing Day, we went over to Grandpa Jensen's house and had a pizza party and opened up gifts there too. By 6pm that night my house was de-Christmastized (is that a word or did I make it up?! It means no more Christmas decor in my house anywhere, no more tree, lights, anything - I am done with Christmas - but I dont consider myself a Scrooge, I just cant handle all the Christmas "clutter" anymore). 364 more days until the next Christmas - woo hoo!

Pictures in random order (to my kiddos: sorry for not taking any pictures with the Jensens, your parents are lame and kept forgetting to snap some).

This year, zhu zhu pets was the winner. He had to go to the store twice and one time it was at 6am to get it. He sure does love her.Enjoying the Snickers fondueEli and his Grandpa Rodgers tongue, trying to hide the excitment for his train that he loves so much and really wants it to keep running 24/7 even though no one is in there to watch it.Miss Em and her razorThe twins opening a present togetherGrandpa giving the boys a ride on the stool

FROM THE MOUTH OF ELI!

Here are a few things that Eli has said this week that make me giggle...

Dad: Elias come take a shower
Eli: (shouting) NO! I have super powers!

Eli: I'm hungry.
Mom: Why?
Eli: because I want food...

Eli: Do you hear that? (picture him with just his eyes shifting from side to side)
Mom: What?
Eli: (whispering) It's a dinosaur
Mom: I don't see a dinosaur
Eli: (still whispering in a very matter of fact fashion) It's in my ear!

LAST WEEKS EVENTS

It was a busy week with the usual weekly chores; volunteering at school, Dr appointments, dance carpool, blah blah but in the mix of all of that there were a few highlights. Wednesday night about 16 friends in the ward surprised me with dinner at Cheesecake factorythen we headed back to a friends house for a cake which was hysterical and completely yummy...inside jokeI also got a Coach purse from the prettiest most thoughtful/generous cousins ever. 3 years ago they gave me a Coach wristlet, last year it was a wallet, this year was a purse...I can only imagine that next year it must be the store :)Don't you just love the fun green inside. Then Thursday was my 31st birthday and Jared took Thursday off so I could do whatever...which meant that my friends planned an exciting morning for me...boot camp at 6am followed by the gym workout class at 830am - don't worry I squeezed in some krispy kreme donuts in between there. Then me, Jared and the boys went to lunch, then to grandma's house, then all the boys took a nap and I went shopping, came home got ready and went out to dinner with Jared and did some more shoppingThen Friday, Jared took that day off too so I could do whatever and I wanted to spend my birthday money so he watch 7 kiddos so me and my 2 girlfriends could go shopping - he is a dang good husband. Friday night Emma had her dance team sleepover. It started at 6pm and was filled with lots of giggly girls, Christmas caroling on the parade floatcraft making, game playing and pajama run way showAt 12:30am I finally left to go home and the girls were still going but Emma seemed really happy and rested when she came home at 8am on Saturday. For the last month or so Emma has been practicing with the Stake Children's choir and last night they performed in the Stake Christmas program. When it was over we all asked Emma how she liked singing and told her how well she did and she said she had fun, liked singing "Little Drummer Boy" the best and that her throat hurt so she will just stick with dancing :)
Just a picture of Tyson pimpin' it with his booty crack hangin' out that makes me and Jared laugh

DECORATING THE TREE!

Let the mayhem begin. Decorating a tree with 4 kids, 3 under 3yrs old can be quite a fun/stressful event. We started out the night ordering pizza and picking up donuts to carry on the Rodgers tradition of a "party" when you decorate the tree (only our donuts were store bought and not home made, our Christmas music was from a CD not a record and we decorated Dec. 4th and growing up my family didn't decorate until after my birthday so I would feel like it was my birthday and not Christmas!) All the kids loved Daddy picking them up to hang the ornaments high on the tree, Tyson broke 4 ornaments and Tyler took all the hooks off the bulbs as fast as he could and separated them into piles. Before the tree was all decorated we put the kiddos up to the island to drink hot chocolate and eat donuts while I hurried and finished the tree trimming.

APS CHANDLER CHRISTMAS LIGHT PARADE!

Emma danced in her first parade on Saturday night. She LOVED it! In spite of the fact that the high was 56 degrees and the low was 30 degrees that day she still had a great time with help from her warm pack stuck on the inside of her costume to help keep her chest warm! She had a great support from family that night as well; all her grandparents came, it was the second time her brothers have seen her dance and even Uncle Jacob, Aunt Lauren and Hudson made it out.The girls were shivering all night long waiting to start the parade and finally when they started dancing they were a little stiff at first but by the time they got to the end of the parade route they were all defrosted and were rockin' it!

NOT YOUR TYPICAL SECRET SANTA STORY!

This is a funny story I want to type up so my family will always remember it. Do you ever have those moments where you wished you were being video taped?! Well, today I did because it was dang funny. As you read the story...make a mental picture in your head...

So my family and some other families got together and wanted to leave an "anonymous" Christmas donation for someone who could use a little help this year. We got together and pulled some cash and put it in a little box that said, "Merry Christmas, Love Santa Claus" and Jared and I said we would deliver it since we would be in that neighborhood.

We loaded up the kids, headed out, and noticed that their car was parked out front, so we knew they were home. Jared dropped me off at the house and then drove around the corner and I placed the package ever so carefully on the mat and rang the doorbell 3 times in the friendly doorbell ring which would say: "someone is here and surprising you, come and open me up". I ran off as fast as I could, ran past the old man neighbor who was outside smoking a cigarette staring at me and smiling and I looked at him and smiled and put my finger over my mouth and shouted, "SHHHHHH!".

We waited about 4 to 5 minutes thinking the coast was clear and that they should have picked it up by then. We rounded the corner ever so slowly and drove past only to discover our package lay their untouched. What a let down.

"Ok, we will try again...perhaps they were in the bathroom or something" we were thinking. Jared dropped me off again and proceeded to round the corner while I rang the doorbell 3 quick times again and ran so fast I was huffing and puffing and hopped in the car. We waited again and thought, "surely it will be gone this time!".

Just to be sure we didn't get caught, Jared stayed behind the corner so they wouldn't recognize our car and I snuck up to the house only to be completely bummed out discovering that once again, the package lay there undisturbed. Now this is where the story gets a bit comical...I started to walk away unsure what to do; "should I try to open their car and stick it in there?", "Should I pick it back up and take it home?", "what should I do?".

As I am walking away I hear, "Carol?! What are you doing here?" I look up and discover they have opened the 2nd story window and see me. My reply in complete shock that I have been discovered and don't know what to do, "Uh, nothing!".
"Carol, have you been ringing our doorbell?".
"NO!" Now picture me turning around and just running away (can I also just say that this house is 30 minutes away so there is no excuse for me to be over there at all). In a panic I start running back to the car and Jared can tell on my face something is up so he throws the car in reverse and starts backing up thinking perhaps they are coming. I shout threw the window...."they see me, I don't know what to do, they haven't seen the package yet though, should I grab it?" He says, "I don't know!" So I grab the phone and call my friend who is in on the whole thing, "They saw me, they haven't seen the package what should I do? Hurry tell me!" My friend says, "I don't know, go grab the package, hurry!" So I hauled butt back to the door, grabbed the package and as I am turning and starting to run away the door opens....bum bum bum(intense scary music noise from the movies) they open the door start to say something, I keep running and their dog gets out and now their dog is chasing me!(ok so its not really these type of dogs it was just a little one but still!). I am still on the phone with my friend and I am panting and saying, I am running, they've seen me grab the package and now their dog is chasing me!" I look at Jared and say, "hurry go get the dog, they are running up and down the street trying to catch it and now they are getting mad cause they don't know what we are doing and their dog is out!" He just looks at me and keeps sitting there. I told my friend on the phone, "ok you tell them what we are doing, I don't know what to say and now I need to go chase their dog before they get more angry at me".

I throw them my phone and told them to talk to my friend and they would explain and I will go chase the dog. I chase the dog in one direction and then he turns and starts heading towards our car so I yell at Jared to get out and start helping...he keeps sitting in there watching me so I turn and say, "Get your @$$ out of the car and start helping me!" He takes his foot off the break, angrily starts to get out, the car starts moving forward cause its not in park, he hops back in and says, "what am I supposed to do leave the car in the road?" in the mean time my friend is peeing her pants laughing on the other end while she hears all of this going on.

To end the longest story ever ... Jared caught the dog, put him inside, we got our phone back, told the people Merry Christmas and that we have a "surprise" present to give from a group of people, and we got in the car and drive off before they could open it and try to give it back. How does Santa go to everybody's house each year undetected?! Jared and I are NOT as stealthy as we think. Mission failed.

THANKSGIVING!

Well it was supposed to be the best holiday with the Fa'anunus coming to visit us but it didn't turn out to be the perfect week like I had planned. We still had some amazing parts to the week but our big day together was supposed to be Friday but then Jennifer had to go and get the flu on us and ended up sick in her room the rest of the trip and they left early because of it to (oh well, at least we got Tom to promise another trip to make it up to us!) Some of our favorite parts in no particular order...Radio Disney, the kiddos watching movies together every night while the guys played with the new Droid phonethe traditional Thanksgiving Christmas present exchangeMaking smoresGoing to see New Moon with Jennifer, now we did put on tatoos of Jacob and Edward but I promise you it was a joke to make fun of all the twihards or whatever it is they call themselvesThanksgiving morning Caryn was kind enough to come out and watch the kids so I could go run the Turkey Trot with my friends and Jared could go play in a Turkey Bowl with his brothers. My time was 55:10 - next year, new goal, beat that time and start the race on time, we literally started 10 minutes after everyone else because we were waiting in line to pee. This was my worst Black Friday shopping day ever!!! Next year I have a new game plan which I wont share because I dont want any of you stealing my fantastic ideas :)It is always sad to see our favorite Fa'anunus leave and then I am stuck with a daughter in tears which makes me cry, sigh. To cheer us up we spent the weekend working on a new list for Santa and even went down to Macy's to write our letter to Santa!
